Rome In Two Days: Morning Tour – Day 1

Vatican City
The tour starts with visiting the Vatican city, which has the most amazing art collection in the world. Your private guide, who has years of knowledge in art and Roman history will share amazing stories of the artworks, their creators, and amazing facts in the Vatican Museums. From Roman and Greek sculptures in Raphael’s room to the rich tapestries which adorn the Gallery of Tapestry to the Gallery of Maps showcasing the topographical maps of Italy, you will learn how art came to become so important in Rome and the different periods of art such as the Renaissance and Baroque which influenced the artworks. From the Gallery of Maps, you will view the beauty of the Vatican Gardens withs its unique botanical treasures and historical fountains.
Sistine Chapel For Michelangelo and St Peter’s Basilica For St Peter
See the genius of Michelangelo’s frescoes and his depiction of the Last Judgment. Your guide will share interesting facts about the artists, the popes, the emperors to give you an idea how they changed the course of history and how the world viewed Rome through the lenses of music, art, architecture, and endeavours of the human spirit. The Dome and structure of St Peter’s Basilica will leave you spellbound. Here you will see one of the most endearing artworks of Michelangelo ever created and the only one he signed! The “Pieta” depicts Mother Mary cradling Jesus in her arms after his crucifixion. St ’Peter’s Basilica is also home to Bernini's Baldacchino a large Baroque sculpted bronze canopy, below which is the resting place of St Peter’s.

This ends the morning tour after which you proceed to lunch and walk around and explore the surrounding historic buildings on your own.
Rome In Two Days: Evening Tour – Day 1

As the sun sets, your guide will take you to the medieval streets, where narrow streets, cafes, and tourists all mingle. You will see the unique squares Rome is so famous for such as Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, and Santa Maria Della Pace, a small church with beautiful artworks of famous painters.

At the Trevi Fountain, toss in a few coins for good luck and a return to Rome again, someday. See the Patheon in the distance and the unmissable dome. Next, visit the Emperor Hadrian’s Mausoleum, who was regarded as a strong emperor devout in strengthening the Roman Empire during his reign. From the St Angel’s Bridge, view the fortresses and enjoy views of the St. Peter’s Basilica and the Colonnaded Square gleaming and glowing in illumination.

Enter The Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill

The Palatine Hill will take you back to a time where the hill was famous for the residences of emperors and nobility. As you stroll along the “Via Sacra”, your guide will explain about the famous who have paraded here, so long ago as they relished int heir triumphant conquests.

Hear about Augustus, Hadrian and Julius Caesar. You will see remains of the Old Senate, the dwellings of the Vestal Virgins in the Temple of Vesta who kept the eternal flame burning for the well-being of Rome as well as view Septimius Severus. The exploration continues to Capitoline Hill to see the ruins of the past and discover a Renaissance square designed by Michelangelo with a showstopper bronze statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Unravel the mysteries of the Catacombs
Travelling in the luxury of the vehicle of your choice, you will now be driven along the Old Appian Way, which was one of the most important and strategic roads of ancient Rome towards the Catacombs which total about 150km of tunnels and galleries underground which was home to old cemeteries of the early Christians. You will also see the tracks of the Circus Maximus which was famous for its chariotracing and view what remains of the palaces of the ancient on Palatine Hill. You will visit the Mouth of Truth, an ancient lie detector of the past and your guide will fill you on more myths and legends surrounding it. Your walk continues and takes you to the Temple of Hercules and Temple of Portunas, which is still preserved today. Your visit will also include Portico D’Ottavia, Theatre of Marcellus and old Jewish Ghetto. Your tour concludes at the spot of Julius Caesar’s assassination.
