One of the most recognisable and iconic buildings ever built, the Colosseum is a statement of Roman architecture and engineering feat. It is an achievement itself that a building which is almost two thousand years old is still standing and boasts over seven million visitors a year. In 70AD, Emperor Vespasian commissioned the build. It was to thank the people and give them something back as the history before that was rather dark and bleak. Epileptically shaped, the amphitheatre measured 190 by 155 metres. The inauguration was carried out in AD80 with 100 days of celebrations. Four centuries witnessed close to half a million gladiators and one million animals lose their battle in the majestic arena. As you step in the Roman Forum, you will be transported back into time. Here, stories will be shared about the movers and shakers – The Senate, the emperors, the generals who decided the course of history for Rome, both great and sometimes evil. During the Colosseum private tours, you will stroll along Via Sacra, which was the main road in the ancient city. Lined by the colonnades by Nero, it serves as a reminder that this was the main road where glories and triumphs were paraded and celebrated. Religious festivities and pageantry were all part of the celebrations. Here, the crowds would gather to cheer or jeer as their emperors, generals made their way with pomp.

The Roman Forum also features ruins of temples, arches, and churches dating back before the 5th century. You will see the Via Nova, as street which was built by Emperor Caracalla. Here you will see the altar where the body of Caesar was cremated and also see what remains of the Temple of Julius Caesar.
